About Us

Three leather handbags arranged on a stone pedestal

Crafted in Small Batches

We started Tailnivo because we could not find a leather bag that survived more than two seasons.

Every piece is cut, stitched and finished by hand, then checked twice before it leaves the studio.

From hide to handle

How We Make It

Full grain leather hides on a workshop bench

Sourcing

We buy whole hides from a family tannery, then sort them by hand and reject anything with a weak grain.

Hands cutting leather with a round knife

Cutting

Each panel is cut by hand with a round knife so the grain sits where it takes the most stress.

Hand stitching a leather bag edge with waxed thread

Stitching

Saddle-stitched with waxed linen thread. Two needles, no machine, no shortcuts.

Burnishing the edge of a leather bag

Finishing

Edges are sanded, painted and burnished by hand until they feel like one piece of leather.

What Full-Grain Really Means

Full-grain is the whole hide, scars and all — the layer that gets stronger and darker with use. Bonded and corrected leather skips that. We use neither.
